Ahhhh…that beautiful summer day is almost here, and you and the kids are itching to get away. Families all over the world take road trips, a whopping 76% of vacationers go by car, according to the U.S. Travel Association’s travelhorizons research group!

With all the fun planning at the forefront of your mind, take a little time to think about your family’s safety also!

Prepare your vehicle for the trip:

  • Check your vehicle’s washer fluid and coolant levels.
  • Check the air pressure in your tires, and don’t forget to check the spare!
  • Make sure you have a properly stocked emergency kit: Including jumper cables, flashlights, first aid supplies, flares, reflectors, drinking water, and nonperishable snacks.

If you plan on renting a vehicle for or during your trip please check with your insurance agent to see what type of coverage, if any, that you may have.

Also, personal property usually has worldwide coverage under homeowner’s policies, but check with your agent as there may be limitations.

Inform someone you trust about your travel plans, but it is not recommended to post your plans on social media.

Always wear a seatbelt in the car, check to make sure that any children seats are properly restrained! Over 72% of children car seats are used improperly!

Never leave your children or pets unattended in the car, even if its seems cool enough. Vehicles heat up fast and can be very dangerous to children and pets.

A summer road trip is supposed to be a pleasant fun time, make sure it stays that way by following these precautions, local laws, and more.
